Ello, this is Lurch and today is my turn for Media Fridays on We Three Fiends!
Now, I love to read. I believe reading is the cure for all evil. Unfortunately, due to *excuses excuses* I am now reading at a slower pace compared to Shen and Zee. However, despite my reading slump, I have managed to read at least a couple of books last year. Many thanks in part to Zee’s relentless shoving of book recs down my throat. She gets me and what I dig, or she knows I am flexible.
Warcross by Marie Lu
Zee has been bugging me for MONTHS to read Warcross and finally I did. The summary goes:
For the millions who log in every day, Warcross isn’t just a game – it’s a way of life. Struggling to make ends meet, teenage hacker Emika Chen works as a bounty hunter, tracking down players who bet on the game illegally.
When Emika hacks into Warcross, she is shocked when she gets a call from the game’s creator with an irresistible offer. He needs a spy on the inside of this year’s tournament in order to uncover a security problem . . . and he wants Emika for the job.
- I love it!
- I cannot wait to read book two. Why is it takin sooo looong?!
- Hacking!! Yay!!
- Technologies and virtual reality!! Yay!!
- RPG! Team fights! Fighting, planning, scheming, power ups. The works.
- Art! Yay!!
- Bounty hunters! Yay!!
- Rainbows!! A million yay!!
Okay, so the first few chapters are a bit boring. It was difficult to get through, to be honest. I think that’s why Zee gave up on this book. But curiousity got the best of me and I pushed on.
Overall, I love the world that Marie Lu was able to create. It’s a place I could live in. Her vision of Warcross is believable, that I definitely bought into it. Although there was too much of everything going on that I felt like it was a psychedelic world, she wrote it in a way that was not distracting or blinding. (Sometimes too many details make me dizzy.) AND her depiction of emotions were quite good. Some parts made me blush.
Now I do not want to go into too much details at the risk of spoiling it. Cliffhanger is there though… Thats why I want book two NOW please.
I found the main story quite predictable. BUT it does not diminish the fun. So it’s all cool. Oh, and loopholes… nah, I don’t want to rant. Go read it!
